5/13/2014 Tuesday

Yesterday was the last day to finalize my design. I started building the prototype today. I have to admit that it doesn't look anywhere close to what I imagined. However, this is just a very rough prototype and my material is limited. 

Tomorrow, I will have to finish making and start put it into test and tweaks. I'll have to go buy some more pringles chips. Let's hope I won't finish it before I start testing it.

After a long time of thinking, my design of Pringles Dispenser has some changes. 

First, I was going to make the holder inside the dispenser with two arms that holds the chips when not using. I realized that if it is like that, the arms cannot really hold the chips after one serving. The chips would fall out as whole and fast. 

The first tweak is to change the arms into just one. One arm that holds the chips and as the trigger is being pushed slowly. It is responsive to the amount of force being applied. It lowers the arms and let the chips slide through. 

I also think that the first design of stand is too immobile. So I want to design two parts a hanger and a stand. Here are my ideas

I have begun to think of ideas for Pringles dispenser. I realized that shooting out Pringles is just not realistic because of its size. So I started thinking a way to improve way to eat Pringles. 

I thought about how we always have to put our hands into the can after a certain amount of Pringles is eaten. There, I started to "find" ways to eat Pringles without one hand holding the can and the other trying to get those chips deep in the can. 

The easiest way is to let the chips come out themselves. So, I have started my blue print for the design. The device will look like the cereal dispenser in our dinning hall but has better feature in it.

Since the beginning Mr. Igoe suggested me to make designs. I have been thinking for a long time about how to get my idea. Just few minutes ago, I have my first idea ever. That is to make a Pringles dispenser. 

I saw a video just a few days ago. It's a popcorn shooter, Popinator. The device is activated my the word "pop". It figures out where the sound comes from and shoots out a popcorn to the person's mouth. Yet, every popcorn is unique. Every popcorn has different aero dynamic, which made it hard to fly to the exact place. The person needs to catch the popcorn, which is actually fun to play with. 

But Pringles chip are all same shape and size. It should be easy to get into one's mouth same way every time.

Yesterday, my new gears just came in. They are two T-shirts from Reason clothing. Reason clothing is one of the big parody street brands. They make parodies from big designing brand. Over the past few years the parodies styling designs are trending. So I thought doing research of the parodies is important. And I read about their ideas, they said that they love the brand they "copied". If they don't like the brand, they wouldn't "copy" them. Which is interesting mindset because if you really love a brand you would support them instead of making parodies. But then, they didn't just copy the same exact thing from their favorites, they put in their design ideas as well. And that makes their parodies unique because its only theirs not other people's. 

We watched a video in class about a soccer team from Thailand. They built their own soccer field on water. Although, they didn't make it to the championship, they inspired people. They showed that if you really want something you can make it work thinking out of the box.

On Wednesday, we are still listening for the rest of class to finish the presentation. More and more people showed their passion toward their goal. And then on thursday, Jackie's project is very interesting. She is researching about Movies. That really give me more inspiration into my project. 

Using her inspiration, I thought to myself that I should think about one of my favorite movie. And talk about the style in the movie. Nike Air Mag from Back to The Future came to my mind first. Not only it was a good movie, but also Nike just released the same exact shoe two years ago. 

4/26/2014 Saturday

Since Monday, I told myself. I will do these blog from Tuesday to Friday. However, I didn't do that. To be honest, I hate myself when I do that. Now I have to jam all the post in two days, and that is not allowed. However, I'm still going to do it. 

On Tuesday, the presentation started. I wasn't fully prepared. I didn't really think I had anything to show. Since I am not so organized, I went up and did the presentation poorly. And everyone else has their presentation organized. I should have done more than what I had. 

I did what I did last week. Look for news or clothing as my blog. And Tuesday night was my big night. I interviewed the design who designed Luma. I got more than what I expected. I even ask a life suggestion from him.

Looking back this week, I have done an "okay" job. I am still determined to post five blogs per week. However, for the things I do in class, I was mostly slacking off. I try to find the blogs that I do my research for, and as soon as it was done, I will start to open up my facebook and start checking what's on my newsfeed. 

However, I think I have been doing pretty good as a determined blogger. I know what I have to do every night and they are the first thing I do as homework. Because I love it, the assignments are pretty easy for me. 

The thing I have learned from last week is to stay focus. Although, I has been an entertainment for me to do my design researches. I spent a long time doing it, instead of finishing it and move on to other subject's homework. 

4/17/2014 Thursday

Thursdays is no doubt going to be my favorite days. I made it the shoe day. That means, I can spend the whole time just looking at shoes and talk about it. 

Today, in class, people sat down and talked about their project. We came to this question about the bigger goods. I realized that designs aren't always perfect. There is always something that is missing, eventually. That's the reason that there is always new function coming out. And I am, hopefully, going to be the part of that process of making something better in the future. I am very excited. 

Today's research, I wrote about the shoes that is better than I was by taking things away. And I have to say, sometimes adding more is unnecessary. By taking away something from the shoes, they reduced the production need yet give the shoe a better look and maintain its function.

From tuesday's research, I found the perfect example of designer's reason of design. Mr. Barnes and Mr. LaPorte, wrote in their description on their kickstarter account, that they design for their personal needs and sell it for people who have the same problems. 

I was having trouble what to share with people. I realized, instead of showing something that is already designed fully I should show people designs that are still in progress. Then I found this website called Kickstarter. They provide designers a place to look for funds, sharing new ideas around. 

4/14/2014 First Day

After setting the goal of this project, which is to share the new and good looking styles or products in order to let people on our campus dress more fashionable and most importantly look good. I also have decide that since my style of dressing is street wear. The blog I have created will mainly be talking about street brands and urban life style products. 

I have different topic for everyday and I hope I am able to post one article per day. Every monday will be apparel day. Every tuesday will be product or furniture designs. Every wednesday will be about interior design. Every thursday is the most important "Kicks of The Week" day. After the research from monday through thursday, friday will be on how to combine everything into our life style. 

Today is monday. And I was already late for creating my schedule. In class, after the schedule was created, I started to look for design blogs, fashion blogs to do my research. I found two that is very close to my topic. Hypebeast and Highnobiety are rated top influential fashion blogs. However, they are mainly about apparel designs. Therefore, I need to look for sources that has more variety on design topics. 

For today, I have to find some outfit that fits the incoming spring season. I'm looking for       t-shirts, Jackets. As I find the ones that I think should be in the article, I will post the pictures and the links to shopping site.

I found out that I am easily distracted by other things I find on the websites. Therefore, I should be focusing on my objective before I do some "further research".
